With the increasing adoption of stereoelectroencephalography (SEEG) for presurgical evaluation in drug-resistant epilepsy, clinicians face challenges in consistently formulating robust preimplantation hypotheses and accurately interpreting SEEG signals. These skills are critical for precise localization of the epileptogenic zone, yet variability in practice may limit surgical success. This session will address these gaps by reviewing best practices in hypothesis generation, highlighting key principles of anatomo-electro-clinical correlation, and providing practical strategies for systematic SEEG interpretation to optimize patient outcomes

At the end of this webinar, attendees should be able to:

1. Learn how to analyze seizure semiology and build SEEG hypothesis
    
2. Evaluate interictal and ictal SEEG data to localize the epileptogenic zone
    
3. Combine pre-SEEG and SEEG findings to make informed surgical decisions

Birgit Frauscher, MD
Dr. Birgit Frauscher is a clinician scientist whose career is dedicated to improving diagnosis and prognosis of people with epilepsy by developing new methods based on advanced electroencephalography techniques to better localize the epileptic focus in order to improve epilepsy treatment outcomes and ultimately achieve the best possible quality of life. She is currently holding the position of Director of the Duke Comprehensive Epilepsy Center and is the Lincoln Financial Group Distinguished Professor of Neurology at Duke University. She holds a secondary appointment with the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the Duke Pratt School of Engineering. Dr. Frauscher’s publication record holds over 200 peer-reviewed papers dedicated to epilepsy and sleep with a H-index of 74. Her scholarly endeavors have earned her several prestigious awards, including The Canadian Excellence in Research Award (2022), the Michael Prize of the International League against Epilepsy (2019) and the Ernst Niedermeyer Prize from the Austrian Epilepsy Society (2015).
