The teenage patient with a developmental epileptic encephalopathy (DEE) sits at the intersection of pediatric epilepsy and adult epilepsy. They are a unique group which have often missed the extensive genetic evaluations that pediatric epileptologists do now for our young children with a DEE. They are transitioning to an adult world that are not used to handling them since they carry mutations only recently discovered and may have not survived into adulthood in the past. This webinar will discuss some of these unique problems with a panel of experienced pediatric epileptologists that do extensive care of these patients.
Objectives:
Dr. Fernando Galan is a pediatric epileptologist with Nemours Children’s Health in Jacksonville, Florida and is the Medical Director of the Epilepsy Center, the Ketogenic Diet Program, and the Brunell Family Children’s Neuro-Diagnostic Center at Wolfson Children’s Hospital. He graduated medical school and completed a Child Neurology residency at the Medical University of South Carolina. After residency, he completed two years of additional training in neurophysiology and the management of drug resistant epilepsy including surgical options at Nicklaus Children's Hospital (Miami, Fl).
