Overview
Self-Assessment in Epilepsy (SAE) Volume is designed to assist members in fulfilling their Continuing Certification requirement to participate in a self-assessment activity. SAE Volume 11 can also be used as a study tool for the subspecialty certifying examination.

This activity consists of 100 questions that test the learner’s knowledge and competence. Feedback on each question is provided immediately following the question, along with references, and peer benchmarking data is provided once the learner completes all 100 questions. The learner does not have to complete all questions at once but can “bookmark” their place in the activity.

The purpose of self-assessment is to provide a basis for selecting focused continuing medical education, lifelong learning, and/or career development. Please see the Learning Objectives below for information on the specific topics covered in this activity.

Following participation in this activity, learners should be able to:

1.) Self-assess their knowledge and competence regarding:

Basic mechanisms of the epilepsies
Clinical presentation of the disorder
Differential diagnosis
Classification of seizures and epilepsies
Diverse etiologies of the epilepsies
Appropriate diagnostic evaluation and test selection
Principles of management
System-based practice issues
Specific needs of subpopulations with epilepsy
Benchmark their individual results against aggregate peer results on the questions

2.) Self-reflect and utilize their results as the basis for the selection of additional educational activities and/or resources for further study.

The American Epilepsy Society is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

AMA Credit Designation Statement
The American Epilepsy Society designates this enduring material for a maximum of 8.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

International Credits
The American Medical Association has determined that non-US. licensed physicians who participate in this CME activity are eligible for AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™.

Physician Assistants
AAPA accepts certificates of participation for educational activities certified for AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ from organizations accredited by ACCME or a recognized state medical society. Physician assistants may receive a maximum of 8.0 hours of Category 1 credit for completing this program.

Continuing Certification
The American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology has reviewed the Self-Assessment in Epilepsy (SAE) Volume 10 activity and has approved this program as part of a comprehensive self-assessment program, which is mandated by the ABMS as a necessary component of Continuing Certification (CC).
