Patrick Kwan, MD, PhD, is Professor of Neurology and Co-Director of the Monash Institute of Medical Engineering, a unique cross-faculty platform of Monash University that aims to accelerate innovation, commercialization and manufacture of medical technologies to improve health. He is also Head of Epilepsy at the Alfred Hospital in Melbourne, the largest comprehensive adult epilepsy program in Australia. He has particular research interest in the outcomes, clinical pharmacology, genetics and pharmacogenetics of epilepsy, and the application of medical technologies for Precision and Personalized Medicine. He has published more than 300 peer-reviewed articles. He led an ILAE task force to establish the currently accepted definition of drug-resistant epilepsy and later served as Chair of the ILAE Medical Therapies Commission (2013-2017), and is currently a member of the ILAE Big Data Commission.
